Volunteers to clean Smith Lake March 27

What: The Renew Our Rivers Smith Lake cleanup is Friday,March 27. Volunteers should gather at the Smith Lake Boat Launch at 9 a.m. and wear long pants, hats and boots. Free T-shirts and lunch will be provided for the volunteers, and the cleanup will conclude at 3 p.m.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Smith Lake Environment Preservation Committee and Alabama Power.

Overview:  Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 31 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers

Directions: From Birmingham, take I-65 North to Exit 304. Go to the top of the ramp and turn left. Travel 5 miles to the Smith Lake sign and turn right. Travel 2 miles and turn left at the next Smith Lake sign.
