AGL Resources Issues Statement Addressing High Cost of Natural Gas and Customer Service

Officials from AGL Resources Inc. today issued this statement in response to the concerns of two local community groups regarding the high cost of natural gas and customer service issues.

"We are aware that the high cost of natural gas and the unusually cold weather throughout the country and in Georgia this winter has had significant economic impact on natural gas consumers -- especially those in need of energy assistance. We take this matter very seriously and in fact are providing special funding to United Way's 211 program, which provides energy assistance to elderly and low-income consumers.

"The gas price situation has created unprecedented call volumes for all gas providers. We are taking proactive steps to increase our call center capacity, including bilingual staff, at Atlanta Gas Light Company and our affiliate Georgia Natural Gas Services. We have urged the other marketers in Georgia to do the same.

"We are committed to arranging an appropriate forum to meet with the local community groups represented today to address their concerns. We already have spoken with the leaders of these groups earlier today and will be contacting them to set up the meeting."
