AGL Resources announced today the appointment of Harriette D. Watkins as Managing Director of Community Responsibility. Watkins will lead the company's philanthropic efforts and direct the company's charitable programs.

Watkins comes to AGL with a wealth of experience in community relations. For more than two decades, she was employed by Georgia Power, a division of Southern Company. Since August of 2000, she held the position of Manager of Diversity Action for Georgia Power. Prior to that she was Atlanta Region Manager of External Affairs where she represented the company to governmental, community and business leaders.

Watkins began her career at Georgia Power in 1981 as a Training Representative in the Management and Professional Development department, later becoming an Organizational Development Consultant in the same organization.

Watkins is actively involved in a number of community and civic organizations. She is a graduate of Leadership Atlanta, the Regional Leadership Institute, South Fulton Leadership, Midtown Alliance Leadership and the Buckhead Leadership programs. She is Chair-elect for the Atlanta Business League, past Vice President-Government Affairs for the Buckhead Business Association and a former member of the Environment/Land Use Committee of the Atlanta Regional Commission. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of her church, Cascade United Methodist.

Watkins received her undergraduate degree from Spelman College in 1970 and holds two Master's degrees from Clark Atlanta University in special education, and in higher education administration. She also has completed the Management Development Program at Emory University.
