AGL Resources' board of directors elected Charles H. "Pete" McTier to the board effective Dec. 5, 2006. McTier recently retired after thirty-five years of service as the leader to four philanthropic organizations: the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, the Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation, the Lettie Pate Evans Foundation and the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation -- all based in Atlanta. McTier fills a new seat on the board of directors and will stand for re- election at the 2007 annual meeting of shareholders.

"Pete's long time commitment to serving the community ties in directly to one of AGL Resources' corporate values -- generosity of spirit," said Raymond Riddle, chairman of the AGL Resources' board of directors. "Pete has spent most of his career helping build stronger communities and I believe his insights and leadership will be a tremendous asset to our board."

"AGL Resources is proud to be an Atlanta-based company and we're delighted to add someone with such deep roots in the community to our Board," Riddle said.

The Robert W. Woodruff Foundation is an independent private foundation with a broad charter to support charitable, scientific and educational activities. Grants are generally targeted to nonprofits located and operating in Georgia.

McTier joined the foundations in 1971 as secretary. He served in a variety of management positions at the foundations and was appointed president in 1988. Prior to that, McTier held several administrative positions at Emory University where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration.
