AGL Resources has named Dave Smith, vice president, human resources. He joined the company in 2005 and previously was managing director, benefits and compensation.

"Dave has more than 30 years of experience in human resources with some of the nation's leading corporations," said Melanie Platt, AGL Resources' senior vice president of human resources. "He will provide solid, grounded leadership as we continue to evolve our human resources strategies to meet the needs of our present workforce and plan for our needs of the future."

Prior to joining AGL Resources, Smith served as vice president of global rewards and recognition with Delta Air Lines. Earlier in his career, Smith held a variety of human resources posts at Motorola including director of human resources for Motorola's commercial, government and industrial systems sector. He began his career in 1974 with U.S. Steel.

Smith serves on the teaching faculty and as a board member of WorldatWork, the global association for compensation and benefits professionals. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in behavioral sciences from Indiana University and a Master of Arts in industrial relations from St. Francis College.
