Gulf Power storm team to assist in Georgia

A storm team of more than 50 line personnel and support staff from Gulf Power Company is leaving today to assist sister company Georgia Power. A winter storm is expected to bring ice and snow to metro Atlanta and north Georgia tonight and Tuesday.

Metro Atlanta is forecast to receive up to an inch of ice, followed by 3-5 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow.

The storm team will leave from various company locations including Pensacola, Crestview and Chipley this afternoon. They will spend the night south of Atlanta to wait for the storm to pass.

“Storm trips like this keep our crews sharp and we bring new skills back that help us right here at home,” said Jeff Rogers, Gulf Power Corporate Communications manager. “Our crews were in Texas following a winter storm to help restore power this past December — and that experience paid off when it came to restoring power in our own Northwest Florida ice storm."
