LAKE CONDITIONS ALERT
Spillway gates will continue operating at Coosa and Tallapoosa river dams; Smith, Weiss and Logan Martin above summer pool level

Due to recent heavy rainfall, Alabama Power will continue operating spillway gates at its Weiss, Henry, Logan Martin, Lay, Mitchell and Jordan dams on the Coosa River, and Harris and Martin dams on the Tallapoosa River over the next few days.

The rain caused lake levels to rise at some Alabama Power reservoirs. Weiss Lake on the Coosa River has risen just above its summer pool elevation, but should remain under 565 feet. Logan Martin’s lake level will approach 467 feet on Wednesday. The levels will continue to be evaluated and updated as necessary. Two lakes on the Tallapoosa River – Harris and Martin –

are slightly higher than normal for this time of year but are not expected to reach their normal summer levels. Smith Lake, on the Warrior system, is expected to crest near 513 feet Wednesday, which is about 3 feet above its normal summer pool elevation.

Alabama Power will continue to closely monitor conditions on the lakes and manage resources carefully. Individuals with boats and other water-related equipment and facilities should always be alert to changing conditions on Alabama Power reservoirs and be prepared to take the necessary steps to protect their property.
