Alabama Power hosts annual Engineering Day

This week, nearly 100 Birmingham-area high school students will get a firsthand look at the life of an engineer at Alabama Power Corporate Headquarters.

The company hosts its annual Engineering Day, or E-Day, on Thursday, April 10.  E-Day is designed to encourage more students to pursue careers in engineering. They’ll participate in interactive workshops and tour areas including the company’s Storm Center.

Among the high schools that will participate: Carver, Gadsden, Homewood, Huffman, Jackson-Olin, Oak Mountain, Parker, Pelham, Ramsay, Sylacauga, Thompson, Wenonah and Woodlawn.

“E-Day marks an incredible opportunity for these students to learn and ask questions about the engineering profession from those working in the field,” said Derrick Cherry, an Alabama Power senior engineer and E-day coordinator. “It has been exciting to watch it all come together with the help of our company volunteers, who have generously given of their time, whether they’re escorting students and teachers or leading E-Day activities.”
