Southern Nuclear helps discover inaccurate timekeeping, compensates employees for oversight

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., May 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., worked closely with the U.S. Department of Labor in a comprehensive compliance audit to review the site pay practices for the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Station.

During the review, a timekeeping issue related to shift changes for 180 current and former Plant Vogtle 1 and 2 security officers was discovered, and the timekeeping issue has been rectified.

Southern Nuclear has now compensated each security officer affected during the time period in question, and the total amount paid to the affected officers was approximately was $459,000. The DOL concluded that there was no intentional wrongdoing on the part of the company, and no other issues were identified.
