Southern Nuclear helps build a home for a local family

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning Thursday, May 29, more than 40 volunteers from Southern Nuclear, headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., assisted the Alabama Power Service Organization in constructing a home for a local family with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Birmingham.

Southern Nuclear volunteers helped with framing the home, tiling the floors, painting the interior and exterior, installing vinyl siding and landscaping the front yard. Construction was completed within five days and the home was dedicated for the family on Friday, June 6.

Southern Nuclear supports APSO with community service projects in the Birmingham region and around the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant near Dothan, one of the company's three nuclear energy facilities.
