New site allows visitors to virtually explore campgrounds and fishing guides before hitting the lake

ATLANTA, July 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As Georgians plan Independence Day celebrations and vacations this July, Georgia Power has launched a new online resource at www.georgiapower.com/lakes for visitors to the company's lake properties across the state.  The company, the largest non-governmental provider of recreation facilities in Georgia, provides recreational opportunities year round for the general public at more than 40 sites that were developed for hydropower production.

Along with detailed information about all of Georgia Power's properties, including facilities and amenities, local attractions and water safety information, the new site allows visitors to check current lake conditions and virtually explore camp sites. The site also contains an interactive fish guide for each of the lakes where anglers can browse the wide variety of fish found in each lake.

Georgia Power's lake facilities are popular tourist attractions with thousands of visitors each year.  Whether camping, boating, fishing, swimming, hiking or bird watching, Georgia Power reminds guests to "Play it safe at Georgia Power lakes" this summer.

Safety tips for visitors on Georgia Power lakes include:

     —  Swim safe. Never swim alone and monitor children when in the water, even if they're strong swimmers.

     —  Snap on a life jacket. Personal floatation devices (PFDs) should be onboard all boats. Children under 13 are required to wear one when on the water.

     —  First aid kits can be simple. Carrying basic items such as waterproof bandages, aloe for sunburns and pain relievers can keep a minor injury from ruining a vacation.

     —  Keep an eye on the sky. Sudden storms, with lightening and high winds, can pop up with little notice.
