Georgia Power rebates equal additional savings during Georgia ENERGY STAR® sales tax holiday

ATLANTA, Oct. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Saving money and energy couldn't be easier this weekend, Oct. 3-5, during Georgia's annual sales tax holiday featuring energy efficient ENERGY STAR® products, as well as water-efficient WaterSense® products. Throughout the weekend and across the state, shoppers who make a qualifying purchase are exempt from paying state and local sales tax on a number of household items such as appliances, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), doors/windows and thermostats.

On top of keeping sales tax in their wallets this weekend, Georgia Power residential customers who purchase an ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerator, clothes washer or air conditioner may qualify to receive an additional rebate from Georgia Power.  Savings also stack up throughout the life of the appliance with ENERGY STAR® products delivering 10 to 50 percent more energy efficiency than standard products.

The sales tax holiday applies to products that have been designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy as meeting or exceeding each agency's energy-saving efficiency requirements, or which have been designated as meeting or exceeding such requirements under each agency's ENERGY STAR® program. The exemption is valid for products that have a sales price of $1,500 or less per item and are being purchased for non-commercial home or personal use.

Georgia Power works throughout the year to bring customers the latest in energy efficient products and programs, including dozens of in-store events every month at popular retailers throughout Georgia.
