Alabama Classic Foundation launches electronic fund drive during Magic City Classic week

Birmingham, AL. (October 16, 2014) – Thousands are expected to attend the 73rd annual Magic City Classic when Alabama A&M University goes head to head with Alabama State University at Legion Field. The gridiron clash begins at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 25.

Before the teams meet on the field, the Alabama Classic Foundation hopes to enlist fans to raise funds for deserving students to attend college at Alabama A&M or Alabama State.

The foundation will host the Classic Campaign – an electronic fund drive that encourages supporters to use their mobile devices to donate and join in on some friendly pre-game competition. The foundation hopes to raise $20,000 for student scholarships.

Here’s how it works: supporters of Alabama A&M are asked to visit Crowdrise.org/AAMUBulldogs and supporters of Alabama State University are asked to visit Crowdrise.org/ASUHornets to donate from their phones or computers.

“With this Classic Campaign, we want to make the process as seamless as possible to donate to the Alabama Classic Foundation,” said Alabama Classic Foundation chairman Leroy Nix. These dollars will go toward ensuring a brighter tomorrow for Alabama’s future leaders – our students.”

Over the past five years, each school has received more than $30,000 from the foundation.

Classic Campaign organizers have also recruited local University graduates, entrepreneurs, young professionals and others to host their own Classic Campaign pages to raise funds for the foundation.

In addition to the Classic Campaign, there are other events the Alabama Classic Foundation hosts including the Classic Soirée and the Schaeffer Eye Center Classic Invitational golf tournament.

Supporters of the Alabama Classic Foundation can make their donations at CrowdRise.org/ClassicCampaign.
