Gulf Power solar rebates available Jan. 15

Gulf Power’s popular solar incentives will be available again this year beginning Jan. 15 for residential and commercial customers.

Customers can apply for 2015 incentives beginning at 11 a.m. on Jan. 15. Solar photovoltaic (PV) incentives are limited, so customers who are interested in applying need to apply quickly.

Residential and commercial customers can apply for solar PV rebates at $2 per watt up to a maximum of $10,000. Solar PV systems can provide a portion of electricity needs by converting sunlight into electricity through the installation of panels and inverters at a customer’s home or business.

"Since the solar programs launched in 2011, Gulf Power has distributed more than $2 million to help our customers with the upfront cost of installing this equipment in their homes or businesses,” said Natalie Smith, Gulf Power spokesperson.

A solar water heating incentive of $1,000 per qualifying installation also is available for residential customers only.

“For many homes, the water heater is the second largest energy user, but solar thermal technology helps offset electricity purchases for heating water,” Smith said.

Incentives are limited and must be reserved through the online application before installation of qualifying solar systems. The utility has $500,000 total allocated for the solar PV incentives and $35,000 available for the solar water heating incentive.
