Volunteers to clean Alabama River Feb. 21

What:  The first Renew Our Rivers cleanup of 2015 is Saturday, Feb. 21 at Swift Creek Landing in Autaugaville. Volunteers should gather at the boat ramp at 9 a.m. and wear rubber boots, long pants, hats, repellent and sunscreen. Free T-shirts and breakfast will be provided for volunteers. The cleanup will finish at noon.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Autauga County PALS, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, town of Autaugaville, Autauga County Rescue Squad, Autauga County Litter Crew, Autauga County Commission, Advanced Disposal Systems and Alabama Power.

Overview:  Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 31 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions:  Travel to Autaugaville on Highway 14. Turn south on County Road 21 South. Go to Swift Creek boat ramp.
