Volunteers set to clean Cahaba River March 14

What: The Renew Our Rivers Cahaba River cleanup is Saturday, March 14. Volunteers should report at 8 a.m. to the Helena Amphitheater Park on state Highway 261 at the Buck Creek Bridge. All volunteers should bring emergency contact information. Minors must have a chaperone to participate. Volunteers should wear long pants and closed shoes. Lunch will be provided for the volunteers, and the cleanup will finish at 11:45 a.m. This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Cahaba Riverkeeper, Canoe the Cahaba and Alabama Power. Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 31 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.
