Volunteers to clean Lake Mitchell

What:   The Renew Our Rivers Lake Mitchell cleanup is Saturday, April 11. Volunteers are asked to meet at Higgins Ferry Park at 8 a.m. for a safety presentation. The cleanup will conclude at noon followed by lunch for the volunteers.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is sponsored by the Lake Mitchell Home Owners and Boat Owners Association.

Overview:   Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 31 cleanups are planned  through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions:   The site is north of Clanton at Lake Mitchell exit 208 off Interstate 65. Go east on County Road 28 until it dead ends at Higgins Ferry Park.
