What: The 16^th annual Renew Our Rivers Weiss Lake cleanup is Saturday, May 2. Volunteers should report at 8 a.m. at Cedar Bluff Causeway Ramp. Volunteers should wear long pants, boots and a long-sleeved shirt. Minors must have a chaperone or permission slip to participate. The cleanup will finish at noon. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Weiss Lake Improvement Association and Alabama Power’s Shorelines.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 31 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: Highway 411 from Gadsden to Centre – turn left onto 68 Bypass, go to Highway 9 and turn left. The boat ramp is approximately 3 miles on the left.
