Volunteers set to clean Lake Seminole May 9

What: The annual Renew Our Rivers Lake Seminole cleanup is Saturday, May 9. Volunteers should report at 9 a.m. Eastern Time at Lake Seminole State Park. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes and safe shoes. Minors must have a chaperone or permission slip to participate. The cleanup will finish at noon. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Home Depot, Friends of Lake Seminole, Seminole State Park, Seminole County Schools, Alabama Power and Georgia Power.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 31 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: From Dothan: take East Highway 84 until you get to Donalsonville, Ga. In Donalsonville, turn right on Highway 91. Go 1.4 miles and take Highway 39 for 14.7 miles. Turn left on Highway 253 and go 0.4 miles. Turn right into Lake Seminole State Park.
