Volunteers set to clean Chattahoochee River May 16

What: The annual Renew Our Rivers Chattahoochee River cleanup is Saturday, May 16. Volunteers should report at 9 a.m. at Gordon Boat Landing. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. Minors must have a chaperone to participate. The cleanup will finish at noon. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power Service Organization, Farley Nuclear Plant, Alabama Power, Georgia Power and Citizens of Georgia Power.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 31 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: From Dothan: take Highway 84 East to Gordon. Turn left on Highway 95 North. Go 1 mile and turn right on Boat Landing Road. Go to the stop sign and turn left on Jowers Road to the Gordon Boat Landing.
