Alabama Power Sponsors Junior Clinic at Regions Tradition
Champions Tour Pro Esteban Toledo to offer life lessons to local children
This news release is posted on behalf of Regions Financial Corporation. Birmingham, Ala. (May 11) – Over 600 third through fifth graders from local schools will take part in Alabama Power’s Junior Clinic in advance of the Regions Tradition. The clinic will be held Tuesday, May 12, at 10 a.m. on the driving range at Shoal Creek Club. This year’s Junior Clinic features Champions Tour professional Esteban Toledo and focuses on teaching students about life lessons that come with the game of golf. During the clinic, students will learn what it means to be a professional golfer and how the Champions Tour professionals worked their way to the top through hard work, focus and determination. Toledo will share stories about his career while incorporating the importance of sportsmanship, honesty and friendship. “Alabama Power has been a longtime supporter of the Junior Clinic, because it is truly inspirational for the children who attend,” said John Hudson, Alabama Power Vice President of Public Relations and Charitable Giving. “For many, it’s their first exposure to golf, and an opportunity for them to learn about the important core values that come with this great sport.” It is the second year in a row that Toledo has participated in the Junior Clinic. He will be joined by Jeh Jeh Pruitt, anchor and reporter at FOX6 WBRC-TV, who will serve as media host and emcee. Jeh Jeh will host an educational trivia contest with the children prior to the start of the Junior Clinic. Toledo is the youngest of 11 children and learned to play golf while working at a driving range in Mexico. He is an ambassador of the To Get a Grip Foundation, which makes golf and education accessible to all children. Toledo recently launched the Esteban Toledo Family Foundation, which focuses on helping children by supplying basic needs such as shelter, clothing, food and education. In 2013, Toledo became the first Mexican to win on the Champions Tour in the Insperity Championship. The Regions Tradition will take place Wednesday, May 13, through Sunday, May 17. Tickets start at only $20 and children 18 and younger are admitted free with a ticketed adult. All the stars of the Champions Tour will compete in this major championship, including Fred Couples, Tom Watson, Colin Montgomerie, Bernhard Langer, David Frost, Fred Funk, Tom Lehman and defending champion Kenny Perry.
