Project SHARE marks 30 years of neighbors helping neighbors
Georgia Power & The Salvation Army partnership provides assistance to thousands of Georgians annually
ATLANTA, Nov. 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia Power is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the longstanding Project SHARE initiative throughout the 2015 holiday season. Project SHARE, established in partnership with The Salvation Army in 1985, was one of the first fuel funds in America and provides assistance for expenses such as utility bills, housing, food and even medical necessities. Because donated funds are allocated back to residents in the same community, the unique program is highly localized with more than one million Georgians benefiting from the program over the past three decades. "Our commitment to excellent customer service is underscored by our focus on developing customer-focused partnerships and programs with trusted community organizations like The Salvation Army," said Louise Scott, vice president of customer service for Georgia Power. "The Project SHARE program, driven by our customers' generosity and desire to help their neighbors, is one of our most successful programs year after year." "Every day, people in need throughout Georgia turn to Project SHARE, and it is a blessing to be able to provide them with heat, light, shelter and peace of mind," said Major Charles Powell, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army of Georgia. "Through Project SHARE, The Salvation Army is able to serve thousands of additional Georgia families in financial crisis. We are grateful for the vital support, generosity and community concern of Georgia Power and their participating customers."
