Southern Telecom and Jacksonville’s Network Access Point (JaxNAP) Align to Bridge Dark Fiber Paths of Florida, Georgia and Alabama

ATLANTA, February 14, 2020Southern Telecom, Inc. (STI), a subsidiary of Southern Company, announces that Jacksonville’s Network Access Point (JaxNAP), North Florida's largest carrier hotel since 2009, has partnered with STI to connect its meet-me room and carrier landing pad to STI’s dark fiber network in order to improve network access and connectivity across Florida, Georgia and Alabama.

Interconnecting to more than 20 carriers that connect Jacksonville internationally, nationally and globally, JaxNAP is the Network Access Point and Internet Exchange Point (IXP) to the Southeast U.S. JaxNAP has been independently owned and operated for more than 10 years and services the specific needs of data centers and local networks in the Northeast Florida region.

“We are excited to embark on this significant network expansion,” comments Luke Leonaitis, Founder & President of JaxNAP.  “Our customers, carriers and their adjacent networks now have the opportunity for optimal interconnection. Working with Southern Telecom, a key provider of long-haul and metro dark fiber connecting Atlanta with other smaller cities throughout the Southeast, we’re truly connecting Florida to the world. Our work together to bridge these dark fiber paths will ultimately increase the network capabilities of both our companies.”

JaxNAP offers direct overland connections to Dallas, Atlanta, and all of northeastern Florida through our 34 carriers, and overseas connectivity to Central and South America, the Caribbean, and other distant regions via our subsea cable connections.

“We’re excited to work with JaxNAP and build upon our relationship to provide Florida with a dark fiber bridge to Georgia and Alabama,” comments Barry Navarre, Business Development Manager for STI. “Our partnership will not only allow JaxNAP tenants to gain direct access to our robust STI network, but also will increase the reach for our tenants and clients within the JaxNAP facility.”

“This collaboration not only positively affects Florida, but it also bridges our subsea providers here at the JaxNAP to the STI dark fiber network and it’s reach - it’s a brilliant connectivity solution,” concludes Leonaitis.

STI markets or owns more than 2,600 route miles in the southeast, which is anchored by its robust conduit and dark fiber metro network in Atlanta.
