Marie Mouchet named VP and CIO of Information Technology for Southern Company Generation and Energy Marketing

Marie Mouchet has been named vice president and chief information officer of Information Technology for Southern Company Generation and Energy Marketing, a business unit of Southern Company that works to manage and generate electricity for the company’s retail customers and markets energy in the competitive wholesale supply business.

Mouchet will be responsible for leading the information technology functions for Southern Company’s fossil and hydro generating plants, engineering services, and contract administration. She will be based in Birmingham, Ala.

“With a proven track record of leadership ability, Marie brings a wealth of knowledge and generation business experience to her new position,” said Paul Bowers, president of Southern Company Generation and Energy Marketing. “She will play an instrumental role in leading the information technology efforts for many key units within our organization.”

Mouchet will report to Bowers and Becky Blalock, senior vice president and chief information officer for Southern Company.

Mouchet previously served as the director of Generation and Energy Marketing’s Financial and Contract Services. In that role, Mouchet was responsible for overall management, administration, and implementation of all wholesale and bulk power contracts for Southern Company.

Mouchet began her career with Southern Company in 1981 as an assistant analyst for the company’s rate and economic services division. She progressed through positions of increasing responsibility before being named supervisor of regulatory research in 1986. A year later, she became supervisor of market intelligence and was later named as manager of market intelligence in 1988. In 1990, Mouchet was named assistant to the vice president of public relations. She transferred to Southern Company’s Georgia Power subsidiary in 1992 to serve as a senior regulatory affairs representative.

While at Georgia Power, Mouchet held managerial roles within the company’s electric transportation and commercial sales and services programs. In 1996, Mouchet was named manager of the first national accounts group for Southern Company. Under her leadership, Southern Company’s National Accounts program gained recognition as one of the top three programs in the country as rated by hundreds of large electricity customers.

A native of Georgia, Mouchet graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in math and a master’s in mathematics education.

Mouchet was recently selected by the International Women’s Forum as one of 14 Fellows for the 2003-2004 Leadership Foundation Program, an internationally acclaimed professional leadership training program for up-and-coming women leaders. Mouchet serves on the Board of Directors for Sheltering Arms Child Development in Georgia where she is Chairman of the Community Awareness Committee. She is also a mentor both in the Georgia 100 program and in the Southern Company Leadership Program. Marie and her husband Lamar have two daughters, Danielle and Lindsey.
