ATLANTA – Southern Energy Inc., a unit of Southern Company, has named Dianne W. Davenport vice president of human resources, pending approval by the board of directors.

Davenport, 50, currently is director of human resources development at Cox Enterprises Inc. She will begin her new duties at Southern Energy May 1, overseeing human resources strategy for all of Southern Energy’s global operations. Directors for human resources in the company’s Americas, Europe and Asia groups will work with Davenport to implement the human resources strategy.

“Dianne’s expertise in human resources will make her an integral part of the Southern Energy team as the company continues to extend its global reach,” said Vance Booker, Southern Energy’s senior vice president of administration and external affairs.

Before joining Cox Enterprises, Davenport was a director of human resources for Southern Company Services, another Southern Company subsidiary. She also held human resources positions at subsidiary Georgia Power, and has held academic and administrative positions at Georgia State University and Reinhardt College.

Davenport holds a Ph.D. in counseling and psychological services from Georgia State University, a master’s degree in education from Boston University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Georgia.
