Volunteers set to clean Neely Henry Lake Aug. 29
What: The annual Renew Our Rivers Neely Henry Lake cleanup is Saturday, Aug. 29. Volunteers should report at 7:30 a.m. at Lakeshore Marina. Volunteers should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. T-shirts will be provided. Minors must have a chaperone to participate. The cleanup will finish at noon and lunch will be provided. This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power, Alabama Power Service Organization, Buffalo Rock, Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, Calhoun County Commission, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Commissioner Don Hudson, Dr. Tamara McIntosh LLC Family Practice, Echols Metal, Fort McClellan Credit Union, Lakeshore Marina, Little Canoe Veterinary Clinic, Moore Printing, Neely Henry Lake Association, New Flyer, Ohatchee Discount Supermarket, Ohatchee Hardware, Sunset Cove Consulting and Town of Ohatchee. Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 31 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.
