Ron Shipman named vice president of Georgia Power’s Central Region

ATLANTA – Sept. 16, 2015 – Georgia Power announced today that Ron Shipman has been named vice president of the company’s Central Region. In his new role, Shipman will lead Georgia Power’s operations for 165,000 customers in a 26-county area including the cities of Macon, Dublin, Hawkinsville, Milledgeville, Perry and Vidalia.

“Ron’s diverse experiences across so many areas of the company give him a unique understanding of Georgia Power’s position in the communities we serve,” said Craig Barrs, executive vice president of Customer Service and Operations for Georgia Power. “His record of providing superior customer service and building strong, long-lasting relationships internally and externally will serve Georgia Power and Central Region very well in this new role.”

Shipman has worked with Georgia Power since 1984 in a variety of roles including positions in nuclear chemistry, environmental affairs, legislative affairs, area management and distribution management.  In his most recent position as vice president of Environmental Affairs for Georgia Power, Shipman directed the company’s environmental compliance and stewardship programs, ensuring that the company’s operations preserve the environment and Georgia’s natural resources. In this role, Shipman led the company’s response to numerous new environmental regulations such as the Mercury and Air Toxics (MATS) rule and the creation of the innovative Water Research Center at Plant Bowen which is finding new ways to improve water usage at power plants.

A graduate of the Morehouse College with a bachelor’s in Biology, Shipman also earned MBA from Shorter College. He is also a graduate of Leadership Georgia and the Regional Leadership Institute.
