Volunteers set to clean Smith Lake Oct. 8
What: The Renew Our Rivers Smith Lake cleanup is Thursday, Oct. 8 in Winston County. Volunteers will meet at theKing’s Boat Dock at 8:30 a.m. for a safety presentation. The cleanup will conclude at 1:30 p.m. followed by a lunch for the volunteers. This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power, Bankhead National Forest and Winston County Smith Lake Advocacy Inc. Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 31 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers. Travel 7 miles and then turn right on County Road 222. Stay on County Road 222 and travel across Big Bridge. Continue for 3 miles past Big Bridge and turn left on County Road 933, which will change to County Road 22 in approximately 1 mile in Winston County.
