Gulf Power tops in environmental stewardship
PENSACOLA, Florida – Gulf Power received another accolade for the company’s dedication to environmental issues and causes when it was recently named one of the top Environmental Champions in the country. Cogent Reports™ named Gulf Power one of the top 36 utility champions from four regions nationwide, and one of the top three in the South region. Cogent Reports, the syndicated research division of Market Strategies International, released the rankings of the top ranked electric, natural gas and combustion providers based on more than 25,000 consumer performance ratings for 125 leading utilities across the United States. “This award gives us the opportunity to celebrate our employees’ commitment to establish a better future for us all,” said Marcus Mitchell, Gulf Power spokesperson. “Environmental stewardship is key to our mission of building stronger communities.” For the second year, Cogent Reports has computed Environmental Dedication scores for individual utilities and recognized Environmental Champions in its Utility Trusted Brand & Customer EngagementTM study, a report that also measures Brand Trust, Operational Satisfaction and Product Engagement, and overall Customer Engagement. Gulf Power and other Environmental Champions were determined based on Environmental Dedication scores and rankings that reflect the extent to which consumers believe providers are supporting environmental causes, committed to environmentally friendly energy sources, encouraging green initiatives and offering tools to help consumers save energy. “These Environmental Champions are setting an example for peers in the industry on environmental dedication,” said Chris Oberle, senior vice president at Market Strategies International. “This designation reflects a commitment to prioritizing environmental initiatives and serves as a reward from their customers for doing so. We believe expanding the management of environmental efforts, improving outreach on environmental causes, and communication of renewable strategies will become increasingly important as utilities position themselves to effectively implement clean power initiatives.” This is the second award Gulf Power has received from Cogent Reports. In 2014, Gulf Power was recognized as one of the top two most trusted electric utilities in the Southern region of the country, and only one of 15 utilities nationwide to receive the award. Gulf Power also was recognized with the Sustainable Florida Best Practices Award in 2010, the 2011 Chairman’s Award from the Southeastern Electric Exchange, the 2012 York Award from the Florida Water Environment Association for Reuse Customer of the Year and a national award from the WaterReuse Association in 2012 for it’s use of reclaimed water at Plant Crist. Another initiative, Project Greenshores on Pensacola Bay, has received numerous honors, including a Coastal America Partnership Award by the U.S. Navy and the Gulf Guardian Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Gulf of Mexico Program. ### Gulf Power is an investor-owned electric utility with all of its common stock owned by Atlanta-based Southern Company.
