Alabama Power Hosts ‘Track to Your Future’ Education Event at Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama
Hundreds of area high schoolers to learn about engineering, automotive careers

Birmingham, Ala. (Apr. 19) – Students from across the region will head to Barber Motorsports Park for the sixth annual Alabama Power: Track to Your Future education event, in advance of this weekend’s Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.

The event on Thursday, April 21 will include representatives from Alabama Power’s Electric Transportation group and Pro Mazda’s Road to Indy. Alabama Power experts will discuss electric transportation and how math and science connect to automotive careers.

Alabama Power: Track to Your Future also will provide students with a broader understanding of electric vehicles that produce fewer or no emissions and can help reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign oil. Alabama Power continues to be a leader in promoting greener electric transportation and educating customers about the growing number of plug-in electric vehicles available in the market.

Aaron Telitz, Pro Mazda’s Road to Indy driver of Team Pelfrey, will be the special guest at Thursday’s event and will discuss how education has played a role in his career path.

After the presentations, students will team up to design, build and race pinewood derby cars, with assistance from Alabama Power engineers. They will learn how their designs can make a difference in how the cars perform.

Students will receive gift boxes with two tickets to the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, a cooling towel and an event-logoed T-shirt. Alabama Power is also providing USB bands that contain information on electric transportation, career path resources and contact information for career counseling.

Alabama Power: Track to Your Future begins at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21 in the Trackside Tavern tent located in the Fan Zone at Barber Motorsports Park. Media attending the event should arrive by 10:15 a.m. and should email Angel Hufham ahufham@brunoeventteam.com to request credentials.
