The Alabama Power Foundation will accept applications through March 24 for its annual Students to Stewards grant program.

The program, part of Alabama Power’s Brighter Minds education initiative, will award seven grants in the amount of $1,000 each for conservation curriculum, including classroom lessons, in-the-field learning and teacher training.

"Students to Stewards gives students across the state the opportunity to learn the impact of conservation and how they can be good stewards of the environment," said Susan Comensky, Alabama Power vice president of Environmental Affairs.

The main goal of Students to Stewards is to provide dynamic stewardship initiatives, conservation education and outdoor classrooms to teach students the importance of preserving Alabama’s natural resources.

Beginning this year, Students to Stewards will begin a yearly rotating schedule awarding curriculum grants and outdoor classroom grants. Curriculum grants are available in 2017, and outdoor classroom grants will be available in 2018.

Since its inception in 2014, Students to Stewards has awarded more than $100,000 through more than 40 grants to support conservation education in Alabama.
