What:  The annual Renew Our Rivers Bankhead Lake cleanup is Saturday, May 13. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes and report at 8 a.m. at River Bend Sports Bar & Grill parking lot. Minors must have a chaperone. T-shirts will be provided. The cleanup will conclude at noon followed by lunch for the volunteers.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power, Boat Alabama, Bama Navy, Santek Waste Services, AAA Solutions, Franklin Ferry Marina, Cabinet Components, River Bend Sports Bar & Grill, Quinn’s Landing, Simmons Sporting Goods, Marks Outdoors, City Auto Sales, Hueytown Hardware, Food Giant Hueytown, Holiday Inn Express Bessemer, Speedy’s Mexican Foods, Alabama Marine Police, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Warrior River Fire Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Commission, Premiere Chevrolet, Pleasant Grove Chevron, Virginia Mines Grocery and Howton’s Camp.

Overview:  Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected more than 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 32 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions:  From Adger: Head southwest on County Road 23 toward Keef Drive. Turn left onto Lock 17 Road and continue for 2.6 miles. Turn right onto Stringfellow Hill Road then turn left onto Camp Oliver Road and follow for 6.3 miles. Turn left onto Hurl Shoals Road and the River Bend Sports Bar & Grill parking lot will be on the left at 108 Hurl Shoals Road.
