Volunteers set to clean Weiss Lake May 20
What: The 18th annual Renew Our Rivers Weiss Lake cleanup is Saturday, May 20. Volunteers should report at 8 a.m. at Cedar Bluff Causeway ramp and wear long pants, boots and a long-sleeved shirt. Minors must have a chaperone or permission slip to participate. The cleanup ends at noon and lunch will be provided. Volunteers have the option to continue picking up trash in the afternoon. This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Weiss Lake Improvement Association and the Shorelines Management Office. Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected more than 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 32 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers. Directions: Take Highway 411 from Gadsden to Centre – turn left onto 68 Bypass, go to Highway 9 and turn left. The boat ramp is approximately 3 miles on the left.
