Volunteers set to clean Tallapoosa River Aug. 5

What:  The 12^th annual Renew Our Rivers Upper Tallapoosa River cleanup is Saturday, Aug. 5. Volunteers should report at noon at Tallapoosa River Outfitters near Heflin. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes and are encouraged to bring their own boats. Minors must have a chaperone to participate. T-shirts will be provided to the first 75 volunteers to arrive. The cleanup will finish at 4 p.m., followed by a cookout. 

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power, Tallapoosa River Outfitters and several local sponsors. 

Overview:  Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected nearly 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 32 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions:  From I-20 East, take exit 46 toward Ranburne and turn right onto Highway 46. Follow the highway for 3 miles and Tallapoosa River Outfitters will be on the left.
