Southern Company subsidiary Southern Electric International has named Vance N. Booker vice president of administration.

Booker, 42, will oversee Southern Electric’s labor relations, data processing, real estate holdings and special human resource needs, providing support to the North American and international business units.

“Vance’s experience in customer operations, accounting, finance and human resources makes him an ideal candidate for this new position as our company grows both in the United States and abroad,” said Tom Boren, Southern Electric’s president and chief executive officer. “Vance in particular will be instrumental in helping us with global human resources issues.”

Southern Electric develops, builds, owns and operates power production and delivery facilities and provides a broad range of technical services to industrial companies and utilities in the U.S. and international markets. It also administers energy trading and marketing activities through Southern Company affiliate Southern Energy Marketing.

Southern Company (NYSE: SO) is also the parent firm of five electric utilities: Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Gulf Power, Mississippi Power and Savannah Electric. Other subsidiaries include Southern Communications Services, Southern Nuclear, Southern Development and Investment Group and Southern Company Services. Together, these companies make up one of the largest electric utility groups in the United States. Southern Company’s common stock is one of the 20 most widely held corporate stocks in America.

Booker moves to Southern Electric from Southern Company Services, where he had worked as director of organizational effectiveness and staffing since February 1993. Previously, he held several management positions at subsidiary Georgia Power. He has worked within the Southern Company system since graduating Georgia State University in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Booker also holds a master of business administration degree from Georgia State. He also is a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Public Utility Executive Program and Duke University’s Advanced Management Program.
