Cities, schools, nonprofits can apply for tree-planting grants
 

The Alabama Power Foundation will accept applications for the 2019 Good Roots grant program starting today through July 10.

In partnership with the Alabama Urban Forestry Association and the Alabama Forestry Commission, the foundation awards up to $1,000 per Good Roots grant to help cities, towns, schools and nonprofit organizations plant trees. To date, the foundation has awarded more than 650 grants totaling more than $580,000 to hundreds of cities, towns, schools and nonprofits, enabling them to plant trees at schools, churches, parks and other community locations.

“Green spaces not only beautify our communities, but also help improve the quality of life for all people,” said Susan Comensky, vice president of Environmental Affairs at Alabama Power. “Trees provide numerous environmental, health and landscaping benefits. Alabama Power is proud to support tree planting by offering this grant.”

Nonprofit organizations, schools, cities, towns and communities of any size are welcome to apply online for a Good Roots grant. To access the online application and to learn more about Good Roots, visit www.powerofgood.com and click on “Grants.”

Good Roots is one of several grant programs funded by the Alabama Power Foundation.  Since its creation in 1989 with funds donated by shareholders, the Alabama Power Foundation has supported Alabama communities, educational institutions and nonprofits with non-ratepayer dollars through more than 20,000 grant and scholarship awards.
