Southern Electric International Inc. has named David T. Gallaspy vice president for business development in Asia and the
Pacific Rim and Mark Lynch vice president of construction and project development.
Southern Electric, a unit of The Southern Company, develops, builds, owns and operates power production and delivery
facilities and provides a broad range of technical services for industrial companies and utilities in the U.S. and international
markets.
The Southern Company (NYSE: SO) is also the parent firm of five electric utilities: Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Gulf
Power, Mississippi Power and Savannah Electric. Other subsidiaries include Southern Nuclear, Southern Communications
Services, Southern Development and Investment Group and Southern Company Services. Together, these companies make
up one of the largest electric utility groups in the United States.
In his new position, Gallaspy, 44, will be responsible for Southern Electrics business development strategies in the Asian
and Pacific power markets, as well as identifying and pursuing business opportunities and managing assets. He succeeds J.
William Bill Holden, who now serves as vice president for operations and development in Latin America and the
Caribbean.
Gallaspy joined The Southern Company in 1982 as a research engineer at Southern Company Services. He served in a
number of engineering and project management positions before moving to Southern Electrics engineering and technical
group in 1991. Prior to his new assignment, Gallaspy was project director in Southern Electrics Domestic Division. He also
has served as manager of Southern Electrics engineering group and has extensive experience with Southern Electric projects
in Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand.
He holds a bachelors degree in urban affairs from George Washington University, a bachelors degree in mechanical
engineering from Tennessee Technological University and a masters degree in mechanical engineering from the University of
Alabama at Birmingham.
Lynch, 42, will be responsible for directing Southern Electrics worldwide construction activities and overseeing the
development of new power-plant development projects. He previously served as director of Southern Electrics Tarahan
Project, a power plant currently under development in Indonesia. He also was project director of the Birchwood Power
Facility, a 240-megawatt coal-fired power plant under construction in Virginia.
He joined Southern Electric in 1988 after several years with an engineering consulting firm and in power plant construction.
He holds a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from Villanova University.
