ATLANTA – Southern Company’s Learning Power Web site has earned the seal of approval from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for use in classrooms across the country.

As an educational site for teachers, parents and children, the Learning Power site is featured among recommended resources on AAAS’ Science NetLinks Web site, a comprehensive homepage for K-12 science educators.

Learning Power provides teachers with K-12 lesson plans for energizing their classrooms and tips for parents on how to increase their child’s learning. Children and students can engage in exciting activities that help illustrate the importance of electricity, such as activity sheets, coloring pages and science experiments. The site also features current issues facing the power sector, such as deregulation.

In 1999, Southern Company’s Learning Power Web site was named Outstanding Web Site by Web Awards. The site was launched in 1998.
