BIRMINGHAM - Nov. 26, 2008 - Alabama Power has been named the 2008 Outstanding Conservation Business by the Alabama Association of Conservation Districts for the Holt Lake cleanup in Tuscaloosa County. The cleanup, part of the company’s Renew Our Rivers program, was recognized at the district level earlier this year. Renew Our Rivers also includes cleanups in Florida, Georgia and Mississippi, and will enter its 10th year next spring with nearly 10 million pounds of trash collected. Since Renew Our Rivers began in 2000, partnerships have included school systems, environmental groups and homeowner/boat owner associations. Volunteer support is also key – more than 10,000 people have participated.
