Alabama Power appoints new Mobile Division vice president
Mike Saxon has been named Alabama Power’s Mobile Division vice president effective immediately. Saxon replaces Cheryl Thompson, who is retiring from the company. As vice president, Saxon will be responsible for providing oversight to operations for the 230,000 Alabama Power customers in the Mobile Division. Saxon most recently served as vice president for Alabama Power’s Southeast Division based in Eufaula. “A family-centered man, Mike’s roots are deep in the Southeast and he will provide excellent leadership for Alabama Power in Mobile,” said Steve Spencer, executive vice president, Alabama Power. “He has been very active in civic organizations and will be an excellent ambassador for Alabama Power to our customers and community leaders in and around Mobile.” Saxon received a B.S. degree in marketing from the University of West Florida and an M.B.A from Troy University. He has worked for Southern Company since 1974, when he started as a co-op student with Gulf Power in Pensacola. Saxon progressed through a number of positions in marketing, human resources, economic development, corporate and financial planning and division operations for Gulf Power. He went on to serve as regional manager for Georgia Power in Atlanta prior to coming to Eufaula as Alabama Power’s Southeast Division vice president in 2003. Saxon is past president of the Eufaula-Barbour County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Eufaula Industrial Development Board, the MidSouth Bank board of directors and the Eufaula Heritage Association, is past president of the Eufaula Rotary Club and current president of the board of directors of the United Way of Greater Barbour County.
