Alabama Power board of directors elects Harkins as new officer
Alabama Power’s board of directors announced today the election of Myrk Harkins as an officer and vice president with the responsibility for Corporate Real Estate. "Myrk Harkins’s business experience and skills will prove great value to Alabama Power and our customers," said President and CEO Charles McCrary. “We are fortunate to have him leading our Corporate Real Estate team.” Harkins comes to the position previously serving as assistant to the vice president, Corporate Real Estate. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and has had positions of increasing responsibility with Alabama Power and Southern Company Services since starting as a junior engineer in 1975. A Tuscaloosa native, Harkins worked early in his career as manager of Administration & Construction. In 1989, he transferred to Fossil Generation and held several positions. In 1998, Harkins moved to Southern Company Services as director of Internal Auditing, responsible for audit coverage for the operational functions of the company; Generation, Transmission and Distribution. In 2004, he was named Internal Audit director for West Region responsible for providing internal auditing coverage for Alabama Power, Southern Nuclear, Southern Power and other operational functions of the Southern Company. Harkins is certified in Internal Auditing, is a Certified Business Manager and member of the Advisory Board of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Accounting. Harkins and his wife, Donna, have a son and two grandchildren.
