Alabama Power board elects Hudson as new officer

Alabama Power’s board of directors has elected John O. Hudson III as an officer and vice president with responsibility for Public Relations effective May 17.

Hudson will be responsible for overseeing external communication to Alabama Power’s 1.4 million customers as well as internal communication to the company’s 6,800, employees statewide.

“John Hudson’s communication experience and leadership skills with civic and community organizations will greatly benefit our company, customers and employees,” said Alabama Power President and CEO Charles McCrary. “His list of achievements demonstrates clearly why he was selected for this important position.”

Hudson has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Alabama A&M University and is a cum laude graduate of Miles College School of Law. He completed the Executive Accounting and Finance program at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Hudson serves as a member of the board of directors of the Children’s Health System of Alabama, the Birmingham Museum of Art, the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club and the Birmingham-Jefferson Film Commission. He is a member of the board of trustees for Miles College and the Miles College School of Law and a board member of the Jefferson State Community College Foundation.

Before practicing law at the Hudson Law Firm, Hudson served Alabama Power as an area manager of the Birmingham Division and as assistant to the president.
 
Hudson comes to Alabama Power from Regions Bank, where he had managerial oversight of Public Affairs, Economic Development and Corporate Diversity.

Hudson is a former journalist. He was on the sports editorial staff at The Birmingham News and was a reporter at the Huntsville News.

He is married to the former Nyya Parson, an attorney in Birmingham. They have a 7-year-old daughter, Jordyn.
