Volunteers roll up their sleeves for Lay Lake cleanup,part of Renew Our Rivers campaign, June 12
What: The 11th annual Lay Lake cleanup is Saturday, June 12. Volunteers will meet at Richey’s Resort located at E.C. Gaston Steam Plant at 7 a.m. to remove trash, tires and discarded items from the lake. Boats will be supplied and volunteers can bring their own boats. Breakfast, drinks and a picnic lunch will be provided. The cleanup will end at noon. This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Lay Lake Homeowners and Boat Owners Association, Alabama Power and Boy and Girl Scouts of America. In 2009, more than 2.4 tons of trash were removed by 154 volunteers during the Lay Lake cleanup.
