Alabama Power board of directors elects Barker as Marketing and Economic Development senior vice president
The Alabama Power board of directors has elected Greg Barker as senior vice president with responsibility for Marketing and Economic Development effective immediately. Barker was previously Alabama Power’s vice president of Economic and Community Development and has worked in economic development management for the company since 2002. Barker has served as the executive vice president for the Birmingham Metropolitan Development Board, president of the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce and the director of International Business with the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. Barker will lead Alabama Power’s sales, efficiency, customer relations and retention efforts focusing on new and existing businesses. “Throughout his career, Greg has been instrumental in the economic development success of our state,” said Charles McCrary, Alabama Power’s president and CEO. “In this new position, his innovative thinking, collaborative leadership style and vast experience will provide great benefit to our customers, our communities and our state.” Barker holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Mississippi State University. He attended the Center for Organizational Development at the University of Georgia and the Economic Development Institute at Oklahoma University. Active in civic affairs, Barker is on the steering committee of the Auburn University Economic Development Institute and on the boards of the Alabama-Germany Partnership, the Birmingham International Center, the Japan-America Society of Alabama, the Southern Growth Policy Board and Birmingham’s Ronald McDonald House. He is a member of Birmingham’s Monday Morning Quarterback Club and the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham. Barker and his wife, Laurie, have three daughters, Meredith, Megan and Madison.
