Waters announces retirement
After 38 years of service to the company, Terry Waters has announced his retirement, effective Friday, July 30. Waters, the longtime Western Division vice president, most recently served as senior vice president of Marketing, where he restructured the organization to meet the new challenges in the economic and energy arenas. “Throughout his career, Terry Waters has demonstrated a keen understanding of our business and a deep commitment to our customers, our employees and our communities,” said Executive Vice President Steve Spencer. “He has been a mentor to many and a trusted friend to everyone who’s had the opportunity to work with him.” Waters started with Alabama Power in 1972 as a junior engineer in He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electric Engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1971. He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Eta Kappa Nu, Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Eta Sigma scholastic engineering and leadership honorary societies. Active in community affairs, Waters was elected to the Tuscaloosa County Civic Hall of Fame, named West Alabama Pillar of the Community, the Tuscaloosa County Citizen of the Year and the Tuscaloosa Friend of Tourism, among many other civic accolades. He is a past chairman of the Waters is a board member of the University of Alabama Productivity Center, the Region 3 Workforce Development Advisory Council and is a past chairman of the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority. Waters is the past chairman of the Black Warrior Council of Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Southern Region of the Boy Scouts of America, served on the North Alabama Girl Scout Council, chaired a Tombigbee Girl Scout campaign and was a recipient of the Girl Scout Thanks Badge and the Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award. Waters and his wife Carole have a son, Griff, a daughter, Callie, and two grandchildren.
