Gulf Power announces two new vice presidents

The Gulf Power Board of Directors named Scott Teel as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and Michael L. Burroughs as Vice President of Generation and Senior Production Officer.

“I look forward to the additions of Scott and Michael to our Leadership team,” Susan Story, Gulf Power President and CEO, said.  “Their knowledge and experience will be an asset to us.”

Teel has served as the Vice President and CFO for Southern Company Operations in Birmingham, Ala. since 2007. In this role, he is responsible for all of operations’ financial services, including budgeting and reporting, wholesale generation contract services, OATT administration and billings, internal controls, as well as fleet operations and trading.

Teel joined Southern Company in 1999 and assumed responsibility for natural gas operations as a Gas Team Leader in Fuel Services. He later served as Energy Trading Manager in Fleet Operations and Trading before assuming the role of Assistant to Southern Company’s Executive Vice President and CFO of Southern Company in 2005.  Prior to joining Southern Company, Scott held positions at Sonat, where he managed a regional natural gas marketing and trading group, and at Ernst & Young.

He earned his BS degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama in 1992. He and his wife, Melody, have two sons, Ben and Charlie, and Scott enjoys coaching his sons’ youth sports teams.

Teel replaces Phil Raymond, who will become Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer at Alabama Power.

“Scott will step right in and lead us through the continuing challenges of the economy,” Story said. “Michael is familiar with Gulf Power from his time at Plant Smith and understands the specific power generation needs in Florida. They will both be great additions to our Gulf Power family.”

Burroughs has been the Plant Manager at Yates Generating Plant/Georgia Power Company in Newnan, Ga., since September 2007. He has been responsible for seven coal-fired units with a rating of approximately 1,300 megawatts. Plant Yates is also the home of the first fully operational scrubber in the Southern Company.

He joined Alabama Power Company in 1991. He started as a Junior Engineer at Plant Barry in Mobile. He progressed through various positions until assuming the role of Planning and Engineering Manager at Gulf Power’s Plant Smith in 1999.

During the next eight years he held the positions of Maintenance Manager and Compliance and Engineering Manager. In May 2006, Burroughs was selected to be the Assistant to the Executive Vice President and Chief Production Officer of Southern Company Generation and Alabama Power Company.

He serves as an executive board member of the Newnan Coweta Habitat for Humanity and is a member of the Georgia Power Company Safety Leadership Council. He earned his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alabama–Birmingham in 1990.

He and his wife, Connie, have one daughter, Genesis Nicole.
