Volunteers clean Locust Fork Oct. 22 as part of Renew Our Rivers campaign
What: The fifth annual Plant Miller waterfront cleanup is Friday, Oct. 22. Volunteers are welcome to come with or without boats to remove trash by 7:15 a.m. at the Porter Bridge Boat Ramp across from the plant. The cleanup will include a community picnic prepared by plant employees. This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power. In 2009, 29 volunteers removed nearly one ton of trash and debris from the Locust Fork branch of the Black Warrior River. Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanups, have collected more than 10 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since the program’s inception in 2000. Cleanups are held each year from February through October on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior, Mobile and Alabama rivers.
