What:              The fifth annual Plant Miller waterfront cleanup is Friday, Oct. 22.  Volunteers are welcome to come with or without boats to remove trash by 7:15 a.m. at the Porter Bridge Boat Ramp across from the plant.  The cleanup will include a community picnic prepared by plant employees.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power. In 2009, 29 volunteers removed nearly one ton of trash and debris from the Locust Fork branch of the Black Warrior River.

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river

cleanups, have collected more than 10 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since the program’s inception in 2000. Cleanups are held each year from February through October on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior, Mobile and Alabama rivers.

Directions:     From Lakeshore Road, take I-65 North to 1-20/1-59 toward Tuscaloosa. Exit at Arkadelphia Road/Highway 78 West. Travel about 10.7 miles to West Jefferson Flat Top Road. Look for two McDonald’s, the first on the right side of the road, the second on the left side.  After passing the second McDonald’s, proceed to the right lane.  Travel about three-fourths of a mile, and the exit for Flat Top Road is on the right. Go to the end of the road, then turn left onto Flat Top Road. Go about 6.2 miles on Flat Top Road to Porter Road. Go about .8 miles to Plant Miller.  Porter Bridge Boat Ramp will be before the plant entrance.
