What:                     The 10^th annual Lake Wedowee cleanup on R.L. Harris Reservoir is Saturday, Oct. 30.  Volunteers will meet at the Highway 48 boat ramp at 8 a.m. to remove trash, tires and discarded items from the lake. The cleanup will end at noon.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by members of the Lake Wedowee Property Owners Association and Alabama Power. In 2009, more than 5 tons of trash were removed by 195 volunteers during the Lake Wedowee cleanup.

Overview:             Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river

cleanups, have collected more than 10 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeastern rivers since the project’s inception in 2000.  Cleanups have been held on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior, Mobile and Alabama rivers. The Lake Wedowee cleanup is the last event of 2010. 

Directions:            From Wedowee: Take Highway 48 West.  After crossing the river bridge, the boat ramp is immediately at right.
