Georgia Power's EarthCents Program Offers Advice, Incentives to Help Customers Make Smart Energy Choices
ATLANTA, July 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Georgia Power today announced the launch of its EarthCents brand which groups together its numerous energy efficiency and Green Energy programs and services. These programs help residential and commercial customers save money and energy and provide the opportunity to support and foster the growth of renewable energy resources.

"EarthCents combines the programs, tools and resources we have available to help our customers make smart energy decisions," said Chris Bell, Georgia Power's vice president of energy planning and sales. "EarthCents enables us to partner with our customers to identify ways to manage their energy costs."
Program highlights:
- Residential Home Energy Improvement Program
Whole-House Upgrades: Up to $2,200 in rebates are available to help customers offset the cost of whole-house energy improvement. A Building Performance Institute certified contractor must complete a fee-based home energy assessment to identify recommended improvements.
Individual Upgrades: Individual improvements can be made at any time and have an annual rebate cap of $700. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of the company's free online or in-home energy audits to learn more about their home's energy use and get recommendations on how to save money and energy.
- Residential Appliance Rebate Program
Customers are eligible to receive rebates following the purchase of select ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances: $30 on refrigerators and $75 on clothes washers.
- Residential Refrigerator Recycling Program
Free removal of secondary refrigerator or freezer which is recycled in an environmentally safe manner. Plus, customers can receive a $35 rebate.
- Commercial Energy Efficiency Program
Schools, universities, hospitals, small businesses, and other business customers can receive a rebate up to $5,000 for making qualified improvements including upgrading interior lighting and installing high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. Non-tax paying customers can receive additional incentives.
Industrial customers can request a free on-site energy audit which can identify areas for energy savings.
Customers can demonstrate their commitment to the environment when they sign up to purchase Green Energy in 100 kWh blocks. These purchases support the development of renewable energy resources in Georgia. Standard Green Energy is $3.50 per 100 kWh block and is supplied from biomass resources. Premium Green Energy is $5 per month and contains 50 percent solar energy. Business customers can take advantage of the Large Volume Purchase Option which offers lower pricing for large purchasers.
