What:  Alabama Power this week is installing a limited number of solar panels on utility poles in metro Birmingham. The installations are part of the company’s expanding research involving solar power technologies.

Overview:  Alabama Power and the Electric Power Research Institute are testing cutting-edge solar energy technologies in locations around the state. In addition to the solar panels on utility poles, the company is installing panels at select Alabama Power facilities.

When:  Members of the media are invited to observe a crew installing a solar panel on a power pole between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Friday, July 22.

Where:  Inverness area of Birmingham, just off Highway 280

Directions:  From downtown, take 280 east to the Inverness area. Turn left at Greenhill Parkway (next to Superior Grill restaurant). Follow road to closed nursery site where solar installation is taking place.
